Midabini is a rural community of about 300 residents located in the Rift Valley of Tanzania. It is about 35 Km North West of Karatu. Many of the people live in the foot hills and others of this scattered community live along the road which runs from Karatu to Lake Eyasi. It is located about 15 km. south of the area where the Wahadzabi tribe (the Bushmen) live.

The people primarily raise cattle and donkeys. Although there is some farming, the land is inhospitable; a dry area, full of brush, rocks, and scrub trees, so a lot of the land is not suitable for farming. |

Some of the children walk as much as 8km. to reach the school. Students who continue on to the secondary level must go and live with family or friends during the week, as the distance is too far to travel by foot on a daily basis and the vast majority of the people do not own bicycles. The road leading to the Midabini area is very rough, with many rocks, and ruts. The road is often washed out during the heavy rains, which hinders the children from attending school at those times. |
